{"id":99,"date":"2007-01-10T14:26:00","date_gmt":"2007-01-10T14:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ianridley.org.uk\/?p=99"},"modified":"2011-07-06T23:34:22","modified_gmt":"2011-07-06T22:34:22","slug":"same-old-prejudiced-tories-in-the-lords","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/ianridley.org.uk\/?p=99","title":{"rendered":"Same old prejudiced Tories in the Lords"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More Parliamentary voting patterns, this time from our unelected legislators in the Lords.<\/p>\n<p>Last night a move to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.publicwhip.org.uk\/division.php?date=2007-01-09&amp;number=1&amp;house=lords&amp;display=allpossible\">throw out<\/a> the Equality Act (Sexual Orientation) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006 was defeated by 199 to 68. The Regulations prohibit discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation in provision of goods and services in Northern Ireland and have been in force since 1st Jan in the province.<\/p>\n<p>The Regulations were opposed by some religious groups with a <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/uk_politics\/6243323.stm\">demo outside Parliament<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Back on the red benches and 42 Tory Peers joined their &#8220;enlightened&#8221; colleagues from the DUP and UUP in trying to restore the &#8220;freedom&#8221; of NI businesses to discriminate against homosexuals.<\/p>\n<p>Nice to know Cameron&#8217;s &#8220;cuddly&#8221; Tories are in fact still at one with the Tebbit tendency.<\/p>\n<p>In fact Norman himself spoke and joined 41 other Tories in voting against the Regulations.
