Supposedly careful with tax-payers&#8217; money. To the point of driving through policies to remove benefits from the genuinely disabled, cut the armed forces and put up VAT to reduce the deficit.<\/p>\n<p>However, during this election campaign they have made a whole series of uncosted spending promises. These are based on ideology rather pragmatic control of spending. Had other parties done the same, the right-wing press would have torn into them.<\/p>\n<p>It really does call into question their priorities and ability to think in the longer term. The &#8220;costly&#8221; policies that stand out are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/election-2015-32271505\">Inheritance tax cut<\/a> &#8211;\u00a0 this would cost \u00a31 billion;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/cms\/s\/0\/ce340ce0-e670-11e4-afb7-00144feab7de.html#axzz3YtSCjXe6\">Selling Lloyds shares cheap to small investors<\/a> &#8211; The Financial times says the cost to the taxpayer of, &#8220;..the giveaway &#8230; would depend on the size of the discount and the Lloyds share price at the point of the privatisation.&#8221;;<\/li>\n<li>Discounted <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2015\/apr\/14\/tory-election-manifesto-right-to-buy-housing-association-properties\">Right to Buy<\/a> for Housing Association tenants. Offering these houses at a knock-down price is estimated to cost \u00a35.8 billion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Given there is still a large deficit in government spending and the Tories want \u00a3billions of spending cuts, the above policies are irresponsible to say the least.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Conservatives.
