Trying to keep the BBC honest

Nick Clegg visited De Montfort University in Leicester today. The campus is near to two seats where the Lib Dems finished a close second in 2005: Leicester South and Harborough.

Zuffar Haq, Lib Dem candidate for Harborough was on hand to welcome Nick to the area.

The BBC would have you think (2nd image in their slideshow) that the visit was “ambushed” by Labour.

However, Alex Folkes’ photos show in fact that there were few Labour posters. it’s just that the BBC managed to get them all in one close-up shot. As you can see there a couple of home-made Lib Dem placards too.

I have pointed this out to the BBC via their complaints page and also corrected them in their spelling of De Montfort.

Labour are “done in Harborough”

Monday, April 12th, 2010

Labour’s prospective candidate for Harborough appears to think that knocking on doors in Corby is a better use of his time that supporting his own campaign here.

A Tweet from the Labour PPC on Saturday read:

“Done in Harborough, now off to join @peterbowers, @Gavinlambert in Corby #labourdoorstep”

I cannot blame him given that they have come 3rd in every election since 1979.

On May 6th Harborough, Oadby & Wigston will elect a Lib Dem MP or a Tory MP. Labour appear to appreciate  this and are spending their time in a nearby marginal seat in Northamptonshire.
